Evacuation from Facilities

A university facility may be evacuated due to a fire, bomb threat, hazardous material release, or other emergency.

An evacuation may be initiated either by the activation of a fire alarm or by direct instructions from emergency personnel

Comply with the specific instructions in an orderly fashion

If you are in charge of others you may be asked to inform them of the evacuation instructions and to help guide them from the facility

Persons operating equipment that poses a hazard if left unattended should, if at all possible, shut down the equipment prior to evacuating

When evacuated you will be directed to a rally point or shelter

Persons at the rally point may be asked to identify themselves in case medical screening or decontamination becomes necessary

At the rally point you should attempt to account for co-workers, students, classmates, fellow residents, etc. and to inform emergency personnel if persons are missing or unaccounted for

No one should leave the rally point until instructed to do so by emergency personnel
